The high vase has a ring with a node in the upper part and two openings and a hole bored in the back. Each cylindrical bamboo part is arranged with a node at the lower part. It is lacquered in gold, which is rare in Rikyu’s work, and features wave crests with two tortoises in each wave. We can see many cracks all over the work and repairs made over the years. This is a vase with a feeling of austere refinement in quiet and gorgeous maki-e lacquer.
