- The trip that YOKOYAMA Taikan took to China in June and July of 1910 helped him to establish his own style in the new field of picture scroll and ink painting. He depicts the landscape that he viewed one morning around the Yangtze River against a gold background in a free and easy style. The result of contrasting the empty spaces in gold with the majestic river and the bright morning sun is typical of the special quality of his work.
