Description
This is a really exotic square dish with a figure of a West Asian sitting on and guiding an elephant. The background glaze for the elephants and person is in crushed ice design, a characteristic design of the Yoshida-ya kiln, and drawn around them are Ganoderma lucidum cloud designs arranged to make them stand out. The rim margin is of the Japanese banana design. The center of the flat bottom is painted out in polychrome over glaze. The rim margin is painted in yellow and violet to both utilize and contrast with the white base glaze.
