Description
This set of shelves is likely to have been produced according to the design of Oribe, a tea master. A withered plum tree that features in the Chinese legend of Priest Hai-uan, an incense pack and an incense burner are depicted on the shelf board. The brushwood fence in the door and the pink on the side are expressed using techniques that include gold-sprinkled lacquer relief, maki-e and gold and silver kirikane. This is thought to be a work by KOAMI Chogen, since shelves in the same style and design known to be by him are exhibited in the Tokyo National Museum and other museums.
