- Description
- This is a large and imposing tea caddy featuring a design of dragonflies, an insect symbolizing victory. This lively pattern was a favorite of superstitious tea master warriors. The use of gold hiramaki-e and a nashi-ji ground makes a sharp contrast in tone. The dragonflies are exquisitely lacquered all over, even on the bottom of the case. The dignified shape of the piece and the powerful and stately depiction of dragonflies reflect the dynamism and confidence of the Momoyama period.
