- Kuretake bamboo is awadake bamboo that is said to have come to Japan during the Wu Dynasty in ancient China. Bamboo swaying in the wind is represented on the large square tray. Each leaf is realistically depicted in careful brushwork and the blue shell on the background lacquer is beautifully sprinkled like stars in the sky, inviting us into an illusory world.
