Description
MITANI Goichi was awarded the Japan Art Academy Prize for “Wind from the sea” shown in the 19th Nitten-Exhibition. This work is one of a series that uses shells on a beach as a motif. The unique tenbori (stippling) technique gives it a poetic and modern feel. Many of the shells and soaring birds in the sky depicted using this technique are made to appear iridescent by using aluminum powder and colorful lacquer.
