No:03019400Cranes, pine and bamboo in Yuzen-dyeing.

Date

Description
Yuzen dyeing, a technique of coloring plain cloth, was developed in the late 1600s. A work inscribed “Murasaki Shikibu viewing the moon at Ishiyama Temple”, owned by the Tokyo National Museum, tells us that Yuzen cloth has been created already in 1720, in Kaga. This work is in good condition. The patterns of flowing water, cranes, pines, bamboo leaves and flowers are depicted on the silk cloth using skilled dyeing techniques. The cranes’ feathers were colored with white pigment after dyeing.
