Description
The kiln of Jingdezhen in Jingdezhen, China was a representative place for the manufacturing of ceramics during the Ming Dynasty. This covered vessel is rectangular, a shape which is sometimes seen in pottery of Banreki era. On the surface of the cover and the side of the vessel twin dragon designs are colorfully painted in underglaze blue and polychrome overglaze enamels. The bottom of the vessel is unglazed but beneath a drop of glaze can be found in one spot a mark written in blue enamel and enclosed in a double rectangle reads, “Made in Banreki era of Great Ming Dynasty ”.
