Description
This is a deep bowl of a battle helmet shape with rims decorated with sword hilt motifs. A slight amount of the refined clay body can be seen near the base. Trees of plum, bamboo and pine in blue underglaze are visible in round windows. Both inner and outer sides are painted as if the bowl had been divided into left and right-hand parts. This is called the Katamigawari style. One part has a Kinrande style arabesque peony painted in gold on a red ground, while the other part has Syonzui style patterns painted in a blue glaze. This work is finished noblely. There is an emblem in blue glaze that reads, “Made by Eiraku”, painted in the center underneath the foot.
