No:01011400Shallow bowl with a design of peonies in overglaze enamels

Date
17C
Technique
overglaze enamels
Shape
shallow bowl
Description
This is a tiered circular bowl, somewhat smaller than the shallow bowls produced in the early days. There are no rim patterns but simply three large yellow peonies on a white ground with the leaves and stems also setting off by the white. Flower centers and stems are painted violet, leaves are painted green and yellow shading partially into violet, and brim is touched faintly with blush. The structure of patterns and the harmony of color arrangement can be said to be highly modernized, since only the three colors of yellow, green and violet have been used, there is a noticeable lack of red and ultramarine.
