- At first sight, this is just a landscape. A closer look, though, shows that it features “Shosho Hakkei”, eight celebrated beautiful views in China. The technique by which this traditional subject is refracted through the painter’s home culture is considered to be the source of the landscape screens in sumi ink characteristic of the late Muromachi period.
