Description
This is a famous large shallow bowl, one example of excellent works made at the Mastuyama kiln. The base glaze is gray. In a window on the flat bottom of the bowl, a green jade kingfisher rests on reeds, and flowing water in the lower part is indicated in a picturesque way. Floral arabesque and cloud motifs alternately surround them in separate windows. On the back arabesque vines are painted in green. Leaf designs are scattered on the yellow primary glaze on the foot and in its center the Chinese character "福" is enclosed in a light green double rectangle.
