- This is a hexagonally shaped foliated tray. A peacock is depicted in the flat central area, surrounded by a heron, a crane, a long-tailed cock and a parrot. These patterns that combine a peacock and peony, crane and hemp palm are exceptionally realistic and designed in detailed and balanced fashion. The pattern covering the whole piece is typical of Chinese lacquerwork. The surrounding botanical representations, including peonies and leaves, are the running patterns. The round patterns that include flowers around the rim are engraved in a repeating pattern.
