Description
A spring landscape with double kerrias is depicted on the surface of the lid. On the back of the lid and inside the box, an autumn scene can be seen featuring autumn plants against a fence. This is a remarkable piece of work that draws on a variety of techniques and includes gold-sprinkled lacquer relief, mother-in-pearl inlay, kanagai, kirikane and tsukegaki (urushi-painting) on a gold background. This refined and slightly unconventional writing box, completely lacking in ostentation, displays the dignified style of IGARASHI Doho, the founder of Kaga Gold Lacquerware.
