Description
This ewer and lid is in metallic lacquerware called Kintai. The aluminum as the basic metal is anodized so that the lacquer will stick to it and create a feeling of warmth. The bracken is depicted in gold-sprinkled lacquer relief, Togidashimaki-e lacquer and raden (mother-of-pearl work). The cabbage butterfly is portrayed using the eggshell technique. This work speaks of joy at the arrival of spring at the end of a long winter.
